Curriculum
The School Violence Prevention Demonstration Program curricula is designed to improve students’ civic knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The program provides training opportunities for teacher participants that support the curriculum and emphasize critical thinking, cooperative learning, group problem solving, and performance-based assessment. The program also includes a study of Center curricula and its impact on students’ civic knowledge and attitudes as they relate to acceptance for the ideas of others, civic responsibility, authority and the law, and social and political institutions.
Three of the Center’s curricula are embedded into the overall program, with the Foundations of Democracy serving as the foundational curriculum for the SVPD Program.
