Teacher Professional Development
The professional development models integration of the content and instructional strategies employed by the program curricula into your classroom. A cohort of only 15 teachers working in 3rd through 8th grade self-contained or departmentalized social studies classrooms are selected to participate in the program at a time.
Teachers participating in the program are expected to integrate the program into their regular social studies or language arts curriculum. The curricula and lesson activities have been aligned to Arizona’s social studies and language arts standards.
Participants receive the tools they need to implement the program, including full classroom sets of textbooks and professional development, as well as other supplemental resources. All at no cost to the school or district.
What can participants expect to receive by participating in the program?
- 56 re-certification hours
- 3 sets of textbooks
- Classroom visits by coordinator or a mentor
- Networking opportunities
- On-going support
- Classroom resources, including standards correlations to curricula
- An assigned mentor who has participated in the program
- A stipend of up to $1,200*
What is expected of participants?
- Actively participate in ALL sessions (8)
- Implement curricula
- Engage your students in interactive lessons
- Schedule a minimum of 2 visits by the coordinator
- Complete required documentation on time
- Administer pre/post-tests, if selected
- Secure a control group test partner
- Participate in an end of program focus group
